Carol Jean's Wycliffe Events

September 01, 2023 - ministry Explore prayer conference Inspire

Upcoming Inspire conference

Representing the ministry of Wycliffe to Christians in the U.S. takes a team. In just over a week, 45 mobilizers, recruiters, church relations personnel, and other Wycliffe representatives from around the country will be gathering in Orlando for training.

Carol Jean is working hard on logistics, which include housing, catering, shopping, and other planning. It will be exciting to have so many Wycliffe representatives together, sharing their passion and being updated on Wycliffe’s strategies and personnel needs.

Recent Explore Bible Translation events

Our newly-revised “Explore” event ran twice this summer. 15 participants in June and 17 participants in August joined Wycliffe staff to consider God’s plan for their lives. Nothing beats face-to-face conversations with experienced missionaries and hearing stories of challenge and hope when you’re looking to see if this is God’s path for your future. Several participants are already in the process of joining Wycliffe. (Carol Jean was the registrar for the June event.)

When asked if the week met his expectations, one participant said, “This week did not meet my expectations. God blew them away! I was not expecting to become as close as I did with the staff and other participants, nor did I expect to be able to have the time to have the conversations with the people that I did. Being exposed to all of the different aspects of the worldwide Bible translation movement was very beneficial for me, and because of that God was able to confirm the direction of my vocational calling.

At the beginning of the week participants put an orange sticker on a continuum in response to the question, “Is Wycliffe membership for me?” On the last day they answered the question again using blue stickers.

July responses on the left; August responses on the right

Is Wycliffe membership for everyone who attends? Not necessarily, as shown by the blue dot on the left! That’s part of what each person is there to discover, and we feel privileged to be a part of their journey no matter where God may lead.

Steve Serving Bible translation teams

Steve has been making good progress on the translation guidebook, Translators Notes, for Exodus. This is a resource in simple English to help translation teams around the world find the best ways to express the meaning in their own languages. Some of his work is already available electronically for teams to use.

The Etulo language team in Nigeria has asked Steve to do the quality check for their translation of Genesis. He looks forward to working remotely with them again in the coming months. You may recall that Steve did the quality check for their final books of the New Testament last year.

Praise God…

  • For His leading in the lives of 32 potential missionaries who attended Explore Bible Translation.
  • For enabling the Explore and Inspire events to happen.
  • That we were unaffected by hurricane Idalia.
  • For good progress for Steve and his team as they write Translators Notes.

Please pray…

  • The Etulo team in Nigeria as they work with Steve remotely to quality check their book of Genesis in the coming months. Pray that the Lord would use Steve to help them improve the translation and find the best ways to express the meaning.

For the September 11-14 Inspire training…

  • For God to inspire and equip participants for their roles, resulting in more people becoming part of the mission of Bible translation.
  • For Carol Jean and the presenters as they prepare.
  • For safe and on-time travel for participants.
  • For health for everyone.
  • For good weather (no hurricanes).

Thank you for being part of this ministry through your prayers and giving.
