Steve to PNG, Carol Jean's new role, Enga dedication, Family update

August 16, 2024 - PNG consultant travel Malei Yamap Enga family

Enga people in PNG receive God’s Word!

We rejoice with the Enga translation team in PNG for the dedication of their New Testament, which happened last month. Steve had worked with them several times over the past 8 years on the quality checking for 36% of their Scripture. What a joy to see the fruit of this team’s labor! Check out this video which tells of this exciting event.

Steve to PNG next week

Steve will be going to Papua New Guinea next Thursday (August 22nd) for a month. He’ll be checking Matthew with the Yamap language team and Exodus with the Malei language team. He has worked with both teams before. In the past few months, he has thoroughly reviewed the literal back-to-English translation of their work and looks forward to working closely with them to improve the translation. Please pray for the many aspects of this trip.

Carol Jean’s new role

Carol Jean’s work team (mobilization) recently merged with the HR team. She continues to support Bible translation as Operations Specialist for Global Workforce Partnerships. This Global Partnerships group works with other Bible translation organizations to identify priority personnel needs around the world as well as within Wycliffe itself. Her workgroup defines the needs and presents them to the recruiters to fill.

Trip to Wisconsin & Minnesota

In June we made a short trip to share updates on our Wycliffe ministry with supporting churches and groups in Wisconsin and Minnesota. It was great to see many of you. We are encouraged by the many people who care about us and are part of this ministry. If you missed our presentation, you can watch it here (starting at 25:00 minutes).

Family update

While in Wisconsin, we stayed with Carol Jean’s parents and helped celebrate her mom’s 91st birthday. Although they are slowing down, they’re thankful to still be living in their home in Balsam Lake. In late September (when Steve returns from PNG), we will be there again to help them celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary!

In early August we spent several days in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina with Erin’s & Adam’s families and Adam’s in-laws. It was great to enjoy the beautiful scenery, spend time together, and see the cousins get to know each other.

Praise God...

  • That the Enga people now have God's Word in their language.
  • For progress being made in Bible translation around the world.
  • For special times with family.
  • For encouraging meetings with our supporting churches and friends in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
  • For safety in all our travels.

Please pray for...

  • Steve’s trip to PNG - For safety, uneventful travel, health, good relationships and consulting sessions, and for Carol Jean back in Florida.
  • Wisdom and direction for Carol Jean's Global Workforce Partnerships team as they discern personnel needs for the ministry of Bible translation.
  • The Enga Scriptures to deeply impact the hearts and lives of the people, especially in the areas that were affected by the devastating landslide that happened on May 24th (see previous update ).
